CITY OF TWIN FALLS REPURPOSING EXISTING STRUCTURES
INTO MODERN AND CONVENIENT CITY HALL AND PUBLIC SAFETY CAMPUS

In February 2015, the City Manager recommended that Boise-based Hummel Architects be the firm that guides the City of Twin Falls through the most ambitious expansion of City Hall and its Public Safety Complex since the City moved into its current City Hall in 1943.

The project will involve a significant remodel of the former Banner Furniture building located at 201 Main Ave. East, which will house the future Twin Falls City Hall and City Council Chambers. It will also entail the remodel of the existing City Hall into an expanded Public Safety Complex.

Both projects will involve the repurposing of existing facilities, which will reduce costs, re-use existing buildings, and continue the City's efforts to revitalize Historic Downtown Twin Falls.

However, it's primary purpose is to provide modern facilities that will accommodate growth of City services and staff more than 50 years into the future.

PLANNING AND DESIGNING AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT AT COST AND ON-TIME

The City of Twin Falls will actively involve the public in the design concept for the exterior of the building, which will be designed to reflect Twin Falls rich heritage and its exciting future. The interior will be mostly designed by City staff - with some help from citizens - to accommodate workflow and collaboration of City staff.

The City received six responses from qualified architects who were interested in guiding the City through the process of relocating City Hall and expanding the Public Safety campus. It reviewed the responses to determine the most qualified applicant for the project, as mandated by Idaho code. And in February 2015, the City Manager recommended Hummel Architects to the Twin Falls City Council as the firm that will guide the City through the remodel and expansion process.

Hummel will perform a three-fold mission: work with citizens and staff to plan and design both projects; work with contractors and suppliers to ensure that both remodel projects are completed at-cost and on-time; and to guide the transition of City staff into the remodeled facilities without disruption to citizens services.

THE TIMELINE TO COMPLETION

The City of Twin Falls has worked with Hummel Architects to develop a timeline to plan, design, and complete the City Hall and Public Safety Complex. Both organizations have also identified the tasks, and personnel responsible for completing those tasks.
