Residents are asked to heed yard-sale sign rules PDF Print E-mail

It’s yard-sale time again, and city code enforcement officer Sean Standley says residents who plan on staging yard sales must obey the ordinance that determines where they can place yard sale signs.

These are the rules regarding yard sales signs:

  • A yard-sale sign cannot be posted earlier than 12 p.m. the day prior to the sale, and it must be taken down no later than 12 p.m. the day after the sale.
  • A yard-sale sign cannot be placed any closer than 60 feet from where another yard-sale sign is placed.
  • A yard-sale sign can be posted only on private property with the consent of the owner.
  • In general, a yard-sale sign can be placed no closer than 10 feet from the street pavement.
  • Yard-sale signs cannot be larger than 6 square feet in area.

 Standley says he’s collecting signs that are out of compliance.

 “Right now the back of my truck is full of them,” he said. “In particular, the biggest problem seems to with residents putting up yard sale signs on utility poles and street signs – or in other words, the city’s right of way. You need to keep these signs on private property.”

Department Responsibilities:

To help plan growth within the community and the City's Area of Impact, to administer the Comprehensive Plan and Title 10 of the Twin Falls City Code. The implementation of these include advising the City Manager, the City Council, the City Planning and Zoning Commission, and the public regarding the issues relating to land use and planning and zoning regulations of the City. The department reviews building permit requests and investigates and seeks resolution of zoning complaints.
The Department works with other departments and Region IV Development Associations in seeking certain Federal and State grants.
